Old-Shale Tablecloth

Sample cloth was knit with different yarn

Note from Sarah: the sample cloth was knit with finer yarn than that in the pattern

I have made several changes, changing things like the size of the needles and using 4 ply Bernat cotton … you will have a heavier tablecloth, but a beautiful one too.

Finished Size

Approximately 72 inches in diameter using yarn specified

Materials

8/218 yard balls of Bernat Cotton (or your choice) I just bought them as I was getting low, and when they were on sale.
1 set of No.5 double pointed needles (3.75mm)
No. 5 circular needle 24″ long (3.75mm)
1 No. 6 circular needle 36″ long (4mm)

Pattern

Begin at center.

With No. 5 dp needles, cast on 12 sts. Distribute them evenly on the three needles.

First rnd knit.

2nd rnd: *yo, k1, rep from * to end (24 sts) . Note: Throughout pattern, each yo counts as 1 stitch.

3rd and 4th rnds: As 1st and 2nd rounds (48sts)

5th, 6th, and 7th rnds: Knit.

8th rnd: *yo, k2, rep from * to end (72sts)

9th, 10th, 11th rnds: knit

12th rnd: *yo, k3, repeat from * to end (96sts).

Continue in this way working 3 knit rounds between each pattern rnd and when stitches become too crowded on needles, change to No.5 circular needle 24″ long.
