Bunny Baby Cardigan

Long sleeved v-nack baby cardigan with vertical lace stripes

Materials and Size

Patons Beehive Baby Wool or Patons baby Wool with Nylon

20 inch underarm – 2 balls

Length from top of shoulder – 10½ ins.

Length of sleeve seam – 7 ins.

Knitting Needles, 1 pair each UK Nos 11/3mm/US 2 and and 12/2.75mm/US 2

Six Small Buttons.

Tension

8½ stitches to the inch in width, measured over stocking stitch.

Pattern

The Left Front

Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 50 stitches.

1st row: * K1, P1, rep. from * to last 2 sts, K2.

Rep. 1st row twenty-three times, dec. once at end of last row.

Using No. 11 Needles, proceed as follows:

** 1st row: K3, * P2, K2, rep. from * to last 10 sts, P2, (K1, P1) three times, K2.

2nd row: (K1, P1) four times, K2, * P2, K2, rep. from * to last 3 sts, P2, K1.

3rd row: K3, * P2, slip 1, K1, psso, yo, P2, K2, rep. from * to last 14 sts, P2, slip 1, K1, psso, yo, P2, (K1, P1) three times, K2.

4th row: As 2nd row.

5th row: As 1st row.

6th row: As 2nd row.

7th row: K3, * P2, yo, K2tog, P2, K2, rep. from * to last 14 sts, P2, yo, K2tog, P2, (K1, P1) three times, K2.

8th row: As 2nd row.**

Rep. from ** to ** five times.

Keeping continuity of patt., dec. once at end of needle (inside border of 8 sts) in next and following 4th row.

Work 3 rows in patt. without shaping.

Next row: Cast off 4 sts, work to last 10 sts, K2tog, (K1, P1) three times, K2.

Dec. once at beg. of needle in every alt. row three times, whilst at same time dec. once at front edge (inside border) in 4th row. (38 sts).

Continue dec. inside border sts in 2nd and every following 4th row until 28 sts remain.

Shape shoulder as follows:

1st row: Work to last 10 sts, turn.

2nd and 4th rows: Work to end of row.

3rd row: Work to last 20 sts, turn.

5th row: Work to end of row.

6th row: Cast off 20 sts, (P1, K1) three times, K2.

Work 19 rows in rib on remaining 8 sts Cast off.

The Right Front

Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 50 stitches.

1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.

Work to correspond with Left Front, working border and shapings at opposite ends of needle, and making a buttonhole in 3rd and 4th rows from commencement, then every following 9th and 10th rows twice, then every following 15th and 16th rows three times. (6 buttonholes.)

To make a buttonhole.

1st row: K2, P1, K1, cast off 2 sts, work to end of row.

2nd row: Work to last 4 sts, cast on 2 sts, (P1, K1) twice.

The Back

Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 92 stitches.

1st row: K2 * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.

Rep. 1st row twenty-three times.

Using No. 11 Needles, proceed as follows:

** 1st row: K3 * P2, K2, rep. from * to last st, K1.

2nd row: K1, P2 * K2, P2, rep. from * to last st, K1.

3rd row: K1 * K2, P2, slip 1, K1, psso, yo, P2, rep. from * to last 3 sts, K3.

4th row: As 2nd row.

5th row: As 1st row.

6th row: As 2nd row.

7th row: K3, * P2, yo, K2tog, P2, K2, rep. from * to last st, K1.

8th row: As 2nd row. **

Rep. from ** to ** six times.

Keeping continuity of patt., cast off 4 sts, at beg. of next 2 rows, then dec. once at each end of needle in next and every alt. row until 78 sts remain.

Continue without shaping until armholes measure same as Front armholes.

Shape shoulders as follows:

1st and 2nd rows: Work to last 10 sts, turn.

3rd and 4th rows: Work to last 20 sts, turn.

5th row: Work to end of row. Cast off.

The Sleeves

Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 52 stitches.

1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.

Rep. 1st row fifteen times.

Using No. 11 Needles, work as given from ** to ** for Back once.

Keeping continuity of patt. inc. once at each end of needle in next and every following 8th row until there are 66 sts on needle (work extra sts in K2, P2, rib).

Continue in patt. without shaping until work measures 7 ins. from commencement.

Keeping continuity of patt. cast off 2 sts at beg. of every row until 34 sts remain. Cast off.

Work another Sleeve in same manner.

To Make Up

With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.

Using a flat seam, sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams.

Sew in sleeves, placing seams to side seams.

Join together bands from fronts and sew to back of neck.

Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Finally, press all seams.
