Free Baby Crochet Pattern

Bib, Bottle Cover & Burp Cloth

(Can be used with pattern pfc50 ideal for baby shower gift)

Abbreviations

WS.         Wrong Side

RS.          Right Side

sc.           Single Crochet

dc.           Double Crochet

rpt.          Repeat

sl st.        Slip Stitch

DNT.       Do Not Turn


dec. Leaving the last loop of each stitch on hook,

yo and draw through all 3 loops.


Picot Edge ch1, 1sc in base of ch1,

ch2, 1sc in same stitch at base of ch1,

* skip 1sc, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) in next sc,

* rpt from * to * all around.


ch3 counts as dc throughout.


Approx sizes:- Bib 9.5” x 8.5” , Bottle Cover 8” high,

                            Burp Cloth 14” x 12”  


Materials

200 grams of Patons 100% Cotton DK in white (2691) main colour

50 grams of Patons 100% Cotton DK  in contrast


OR

7oz of Worsted Weight Cotton in Main Color

1.75oz of Worsted Weight Cotton in Contrast

5.00mm & 4.50mm crochet hooks


GAUGE -  9dc’s and 7 Pattern Rows measure approx 2” x 2”

Bottle cover - With 4.50mm hook and main color ch6, sl st to first ch to make a ring,

ch3, work 13dc in ring, sl st to top of ch3. DNT. (13dc + ch3)


Next Round - ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, work 2dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. DNT. (27dc + ch3)


Next Round - Working in back of stitch only, ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of

ch3. Turn.


Next Round - ch1, sl st in base if ch1, * 1dc in next dc, sl st in next dc, * rpt from * to *

to last dc, 1dc in last dc, sl st in first sl st. Turn. Fasten off. (14dc)


Next Round - Join in contrast color yarn, ch3, 1dc in each stitch to end, sl st to top of

ch3. Turn. Fasten off. (27dc + ch3)


Next Round - With main color yarn, ch1, sl st in base if ch1, * 1dc in next dc, sl st in next

dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1dc in last dc, sl st in first sl st. Turn.


Next Round - ch3, 1dc in each stitch to end, sl st to top of ch3. Turn.


Next Round - ch1, sl st in base if ch1, * 1dc in next dc, sl st in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1dc in last dc, sl st in first sl st. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Round - Join in contrast color yarn, ch3, 1dc in each stitch to end, sl st to top of ch3. Turn. Fasten off.


Join in main color yarn and continue with:-


Pattern Row 1 - ch1, sl st in base if ch1, * 1dc in next dc, sl st in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1dc in last dc, sl st in first sl st. Turn.


Pattern Row 2 - ch3, 1dc in each stitch to end, sl st to top of ch3. Turn.


Pattern Rows 1 & 2 form the pattern, rpt both rows 6 more times each until 23 rows have been worked in all from beginning. Turn.


Next Round - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each dc to end, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.


With main color yarn, return to loops on base of cover, with top of cover nearest to you and with 4.50mm hook, work 1 row of Picot Edge (see abbrev above) in loose loops. Fasten off.


Chain Tie - With 4.50mm hook and using contrast color yarn double thickness, ch75. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off any loose ends of yarn, thread crochet chain tie through alternate dc’s on second row of dc’s from the top of bottle cover and tie in a bow.


Bib - With 5.00mm hook and main color, ch29 loosely, change to 4.50mm hook, work

1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (26dc + ch3)


Next Row - ch1, 1sl st in base of ch1, * 1dc in next dc, 1sl st in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, working last sl st in top of ch3. Turn. (13dc)

 

Next Row - ch3, 1dc in each stitch to end. Turn. (26dc + ch3)


Work Pattern Row 1 (as on Bottle Cover) once, working last sl st in top of ch3. Turn.

Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in contrast color, ch3, 1dc in each stitch to end. Turn. Fasten off.

(26dc + ch3)


With main color yarn work Pattern Rows 1, 2 & 1. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in contrast color, ch3, 1dc in each stitch to end. Turn. Fasten off.

(26dc + ch3)


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 a further 4 times or until work measures 5.5” from beginning.

Turn. Rpt Pattern Row 1 once. Turn.

 

Neck shaping - ch3, 1dc in the next 6 stitches. Turn. (6dc + ch3)


Next Row - ch1, 1sl st in base of ch1, * 1dc in next dc, 1sl st in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, working last sl st in top of ch3. Turn. (3dc)


Next Row - (Dec) ch3, 1dc in the next 2 stitches, dec 1dc over next 2 stitches (twice)

See abbreviations for decreasing. Turn. (4dc + ch3)


Next Row - ch1, 1sl st in base of ch1, * 1dc in next dc, 1sl st in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (2dc)


Next Row - (Dec) ch3, dec 1dc over next 2 stitches (twice). Fasten off. (2dc + ch3)

 

Second Side of neck - With main color yarn, skip centre 13 stitches, rejoin yarn to 14th stitch, ch3, 1dc in next 6dc. Turn. (6dc + ch3).

 

Next Row - ch1, 1sl st in base of ch1, * 1dc in next dc, 1sl st in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. Fasten off. (3dc)

 

Next Row - (Dec) ch3, dec 1dc over next 2 stitches (twice), 1dc in each of next 2 stitches. Turn. (4dc + ch3)

 

Next Row - ch1, 1sl st in base of ch1, * 1dc in next dc, 1sl st in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (2dc)


Next Row - (Dec) ch3, dec 1dc over next 2 stitches (twice), (2dc + ch3). Do NOT Fasten off.


Edging - Starting on right hand side of bib, with RS facing using main color yarn, work

35sc evenly in row ends down first side of bib to corner, 3sc in corner, work 1sc in each

of cast on ch on bottom of bib, work 3sc in corner, work 35sc evenly in row ends up the second side of bib, 3sc in corner, 1sc in next dc, (shoulder) 3sc in corner, work 27sc

evenly around neck edge, 3sc in next corner, 1sc in dc, 1sc in base of first sc, sl st to first sc. Turn. (141sc)


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work one more row of 1sc in each sc to end, working 3sc in all corners, sl st to first sc. Turn. (151sc). Fasten off.


Wind a small ball of contrast color from main ball of contrast.


Next Row - Using yarn double thickness (using small ball with main ball) Join in contrast color yarn, you will be working around 3 sides of bib only from now on, ch75 (these will

be used for ties) using yarn single thickness from now on, so break off small ball of yarn, leaving shoulder un-worked, sl st to the centre sc on the side of bib, ch3, 1dc in each sc down first side of bib to corner, 3dc in corner, 1dc in each sc along the bottom of bib to

next corner, 3dc in corner, 1dc in each sc up the second side of bib to last corner, ch3,

sl st to centre sc on corner, (leave shoulder and neck un-worked) using small ball with main ball again, making yarn double thickness, (you should have 111dc +ch3) ch75. Fasten off. Turn work around to WS facing.

 

Next Row - With main color yarn and WS facing, rejoin to top of last ch3 worked, ch1,

1sc in base of ch, 1sc in each dc around 3 sides of bib (work 3sc in corners) to last ch3, 1sc in top of ch3, turn leaving 75ch un-worked for ties.


Work one row in picot edge. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off any loose ends of yarn.


Burp Cloth - With 5.00mm hook and main color ch41, change to 4.50mm hook, work

1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (38dc + ch3)


Rpt Pattern Rows 1, 2 & 1. Fasten off. Join in contrast color and work Pattern Row 2 once. Fasten off. With main color yarn work Pattern Rows 1, 2 & 1. Fasten off. Join in contrast and work Pattern Row 2 once. Fasten off. With main color yarn rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 nine more times, work Pattern Row 1. Fasten off. Join in contrast color and work Pattern Row 2 once. Fasten off. With main color yarn work Pattern Rows 1, 2 & 1.

Fasten off. Join in contrast and work Pattern Row 2 once. Fasten off. With main color

yarn rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 twice more, you should have 37 rows in all or work measures approx 11.5“ from beginning. Turn. DO NOT fasten off.


Edging - With 4.50mm hook, working down the side of the cloth in row ends, ch1, work 54sc evenly along to next corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each dc along bottom of cloth to corner, 3sc in corner, working in row ends and up the second side of cloth, work 53sc evenly along to next corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each dc to next corner, 1sc in base of

first sc, sl st to first sc. Turn. Work one more row in sc, working 3sc in corners, slip stitching to first sc on the end of each row. Turn. Fasten off.


Join in contrast color and work one more row in dc stitch, working 3dc in corners, sl st to

top of ch3. Turn. Fasten off. Rejoin main color and work one more row in sc, working 3sc in corners, sl st to first sc. Turn.


Work one row of picot edge. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew and tie off all loose ends of Yarn.
