The hats were designed to be given away to hospitals that care for premature babies. The patterns are for very tiny hats to hopefully fit 1.5-4 or 5 lb. infants. They are designed to be shallow, so they will hopefully not need to be turned up at the brim. They are stretchy beyond their given finished measurements. Lastly, they are extremely soft and are machine washable and dryable if using the recommended yarn. Using scraps of yarn, the hats knit up in less than an hour!

This would make a great beginning knitter’s project for someone wanting to learn how to use double-pointed needles. It is also a wonderful project for the knitter looking at an ever-growing yarn stash wondering what to do with it all. Check the Internet for hospitals and preemie projects where you can donate your completed beanies.
